Human rights are basic rights that enable us to live happily and are recognized by all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, or gender.

Japan focuses on developing and promoting international human rights norms as part of its contribution to improving the global human rights situation. Japan does so through upholding perspectives including serving as a bridge-builder in Asia and protecting the socially vulnerable at major UN human rights forums such as the Human Rights Council and bilateral dialogues.

In addition, bearing in mind the importance of protecting and promoting human rights through collaboration with dedicated international organizations, our Mission works closely with the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), whose headquarters is located in Geneva.
