As the world becomes more globalized, international cooperation and response are indispensable to address issues in the health field such as infectious diseases. The international community places high expectations on Japan to contribute to the field of global health in recognition of the extensive knowledge Japan has gained through its experience of quickly establishing universal health coverage. Japan draws on this knowledge in responding to the challenges of global health and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The majority of the many organizations involved in the global health field are concentrated in Geneva. Our Mission sets out to address global health issues in close cooperation with these organizations. Our partners in this work include the UN agencies the World Health Organization (WHO), and UNAIDS, which conducts comprehensive coordination and evaluation of the AIDS countermeasures of each international organization together with advocacy. We also work with several public-private partnerships including: the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, which leads the fight against these three major infectious diseases; Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, which aims to improve the vaccination rate in developing countries; and the Stop TB Partnership, which focuses on ending tuberculosis. Our Mission also collaborates with Unitaid, a global health initiative that sets out to improve access to medicines in developing countries.
