   Thank you, Mr. President.

   Japan thanks the speakers for their valuable insights. We recognize the importance of addressing gender stereotypes and unconscious biases in advancing gender equality.

   At the national level, Japan is implementing its Sixth Basic Plan for Gender Equality. One of the plan’s action areas is promoting changes in attitudes and understanding [among both women and men] through education, media, and other means. To this end, the plan includes measures to address fixed gender-role perceptions and unconscious biases in education.

   Japan also attaches importance to cooperation with UN Women and other relevant stakeholders. In March 2026, then–Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, ONISHI Yohei, attended the opening ceremony of the “Unstereotype Exhibition,” organized by UN Women in cooperation with private companies to mark International Women’s Day. The exhibition provided an opportunity to reconsider stereotypes and preconceptions, and Japan expressed its commitment to working with the private sector to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women.

   Japan remains committed to promoting and protecting the human rights of women and girls and advancing gender equality, in close cooperation with all stakeholders, including civil society.

   We would like to ask the panelists: What measures should States prioritize to effectively transform discriminatory social norms and eliminate gender stereotyping by public and private actors?
