Thank you, Mr. Vice-President.
We would like to thank the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine for its important work and for its oral update on the human rights situation in Ukraine.
We are appalled by the findings in the Commission’s March report, including its conclusion that Russian authorities have carried out deportations and transfers of Ukrainian children following a consistent and carefully organized plan and modus operandi, which constitute crimes against humanity and war crimes.
We once again condemn in the strongest terms the actions of the Russian forces, which have inflicted widespread suffering on the people of Ukraine.
We appreciate that the Commission continues to collect evidence concerning a wide range of crimes and violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law in the context of the ongoing aggression.
We also express our respect for the Ukrainian people, who continue to demonstrate immense bravery in standing up against Russia’s aggression day after day. Japan will continue to stand firmly with Ukraine until a just and lasting peace is achieved.
