Thank you, Mr. Vice-President.
We appreciate the reports and updates of the High Commissioner and the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM).
Japan acknowledges the significant efforts by the IIMM in documenting serious human rights violations and advancing accountability.
Japan remains deeply concerned about the continuing deterioration of the human rights and humanitarian situation in Myanmar, including the grave situation of the Rohingya and other minorities. We are deeply troubled by the reports of a pattern of deliberate aerial attacks against civilians, arbitrary detentions, torture, and sexual violence committed by the Myanmar military.
Japan reiterates its calls for an immediate cessation of violence and tangible political progress, including the release of all those detained and sincere dialogue among the parties concerned. We continue to stand with the people of Myanmar and provide humanitarian assistance as well as various forms of support to improve their livelihoods.
Japan continues to support ASEAN’s efforts, including the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus, and remains committed to working with the international community for peace, accountability, and justice in Myanmar.
