Thank you, Mr. President. We thank the Fact-Finding Mission for their vital work.
Japan remains deeply concerned about the alleged severe violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law across the Kordofan and Darfur regions, as well as Blue Nile in Sudan. We are particularly alarmed by the reports of increased drone attacks, which have repeatedly struck civilians and civilian infrastructure, including schools, medical facilities, and fuel and water infrastructure. These attacks disproportionately affect women and children, who are particularly vulnerable due to severely limited access to food and healthcare.
Japan reiterates its calls on parties to the conflict to guarantee safe voluntary passage, and to facilitate rapid and unimpeded humanitarian access throughout the country, particularly into and around El-Obeid and other areas at risk of further escalation of the conflict.
Japan, together with the countries concerned, has been urging the relevant parties in Sudan to respect human rights, de-escalate tensions, commit to an immediate and permanent ceasefire, and improve access to humanitarian assistance. Japan is committed to continuing these efforts toward improving the situation in Sudan.
