第52回普遍的・定期的レビュー（UPR）作業部会対シエラレオネ共和国審査における竹内康朗書記官ステートメント（2026年5月12日）

  Thank you, Madam Vice-President.
 
   Japan commends Sierra Leone for its engagement with the UN human rights mechanisms, including its contributions as a member of the core group on the resolution on Civil Society Space.

   While we acknowledge Sierra Leone’s efforts to advance the rights of children and promote gender equality, challenges remain, including: harmful practices affecting women and children, and limited access to justice and basic services.

   We recommend that Sierra Leone:

1. strengthen measures to promote gender equality and eliminate gender-based violence, including by effectively implementing relevant legislation, improving access to justice, and expanding support services for victims and survivors; and
2. continue efforts to promote a safe and enabling environment for civil society actors to exercise fundamental freedoms, including by aligning relevant legislation with international human rights standards.

   We wish Sierra Leone a successful review.
