Thank you, Madam Vice-President.
Japan commends Sierra Leone for its engagement with the UN human rights mechanisms, including its contributions as a member of the core group on the resolution on Civil Society Space.
While we acknowledge Sierra Leone’s efforts to advance the rights of children and promote gender equality, challenges remain, including: harmful practices affecting women and children, and limited access to justice and basic services.
We recommend that Sierra Leone:

- strengthen measures to promote gender equality and eliminate gender-based violence, including by effectively implementing relevant legislation, improving access to justice, and expanding support services for victims and survivors; and
- continue efforts to promote a safe and enabling environment for civil society actors to exercise fundamental freedoms, including by aligning relevant legislation with international human rights standards.
