第61回人権理事会 議題4 一般討論における尾池厚之大使ステートメント(2026年3月16日)

令和8年3月18日
The 61st Session of the Human Rights Council
Item 4: General Debate
Statement by Ambassador OIKE Atsuyuki
The Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva
16 March 2026

 Thank you, Mr. Vice-President.

The peace and stability of the Middle East is of utmost importance to Japan.  As a country that respects fundamental values and principles including human rights and the rule of law, Japan will continue to make all necessary diplomatic efforts, in coordination with the international community, to bring about an early settlement of the situation.

Regarding Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, we have witnessed a number of serious human rights violations, including abduction of children.   We urge Russia to repatriate abducted children to reunite them with their loved ones immediately.

Japan is seriously concerned about the human rights situation in China.  Freedom, respect for fundamental human rights, and the rule of law must be ensured in China, including Hong Kong and Xinjiang. We strongly urge China to take further constructive and concrete actions.

The abductions issue by North Korea relates to the sanctity of human life and must be resolved without delay, given the aging of the abductees and their families. In close cooperation with the international community, including through “the resolutions on the situation of human rights in the DPRK,” Japan continues to strongly urge Pyongyang to resolve the abductions issue immediately. Japan counts on the international community’s understanding and cooperation in this regard.

   I thank you.
