UPR of the Republic of Malawi
Statement by Mr. TAKEUCHI Yasuaki, Human Rights Adviser
The Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva
4 November 2025

 Thank you, Mr. President.

 Japan warmly welcomes the delegation of Malawi to this session.

 Japan commends Malawi’s continued endeavor to advance human rights since the previous review cycle. We acknowledge the efforts and progress made, particularly in relation to women’s political participation.

 In a spirit of constructive dialogue, Japan recommends that Malawi:

  1. take all necessary measures and legislation to fight against sexual and gender-based discrimination and violence against women and girls;

  2. continue efforts to ensure the right of everyone to education by improving infrastructure, closing the gender gap, and reducing school dropout rates; and

  3. take further measures to combat violence and address the root causes of discrimination against persons with albinism.

 We wish the delegation of Malawi every success in the review.

 I thank you.
