Statement by Mr. SHIOTA Takahiro, Minister-Counsellor
The Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva
3 November 2025
Japan once again would like to make the largely same recommendations as provided in the last UPR cycle:
1. promptly ratify the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance;
2. enhance efforts to guarantee freedom of expression, and protection of the media, including journalists;
3. engage in national dialogue that respects the principles of the rule of law and democracy; and
4. make an earnest effort to address the human rights situation in the country.
Japan notes that Belarus is considering progressively expanding its international obligations and expects it to do so.
