Statement by Mr. TAKEUCHI Yasuaki, Human Rights Adviser
The Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva
1 May 2025

 Thank you, Mr. Vice-President.

   Japan would like to warmly welcome the delegation of Kenya. We welcome Kenya’s efforts to protect the rights of children through its domestic legal framework.
   Japan also commends the significant progress in promoting women’s political participation through strengthening its legislation, including the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill.

   In the spirit of constructive dialogue, Japan recommends that Kenya:
  1. continue its efforts to implement constitutional provisions that enhance the political participation of women and improve the protection of women’s rights;
  2. continue strengthening its HIV response to end AIDS by 2030 to align with Kenya’s AIDS Strategic Framework; and
  3. further protect and promote the rights of children especially children from marginalized communities and minority groups, in accordance with relevant international law that the country concerned has ratified.

   We wish the delegation of Kenya every success in this review.

   I thank you.
