Item 6:
UPR outcomes of Bangladesh
Statement by Minister-Counsellor SHIOTA Takahiro
The Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva
25 March 2024

   Thank you, Mr. Vice-President.

Japan welcomes the delegation of Bangladesh and appreciates its presentation.

Japan also welcomes Bangladesh’s engagement with the UPR process and its response to the Report of the Working Group, including its decision to support 211 recommendations put forward during the Working Group session.

We are pleased that Bangladesh has fully supported our recommendations to strengthen further accountability and justice for violence against women by continuing to implement the National Action Plan to Prevent Violence Against Women and Children, and to take further steps to ensure protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, especially women and children. We believe this is an important step to ensure prevention of violence and protect the human rights of the vulnerable.

Japan supports the adoption of the UPR outcome of Bangladesh and wishes the delegation of Bangladesh every success in implementing the recommendations it has supported and in continuing to take positive steps to promote and protect human rights.

   I thank you.
