implications of the ongoing situation in the Sudan -General Comment
Statement of Japan
Thank you.
Japan is deeply concerned about the human rights and humanitarian situation surrounding Sudan after the military takeover and the dissolution of the Transitional Government on 25th October.
Japan strongly condemns the actions taken by the Sudanese Armed Forces, which have undermined the transition to civilian rule based on the Constitutional Declaration.
In this connection, Japan urges the Sudanese Armed Forces to respect relevant international humanitarian law and human rights law, including freedom of expression and peaceful assembly by the people of Sudan.
Japan strongly hopes that long-term stability will be achieved in Sudan and that human rights will be protected. Japan will continue to cooperate with the international community for the restoration of the transition to civilian rule in Sudan.
I thank you.
