Japan is committed to the Political Declaration on HIV and AIDS: ending inequalities and getting on track to end AIDS by 2030, dated on 8 June, 2021. The 2021 Political Declaration was supported by the vast majority of UN Member States.
As stated by UNAIDS, this declaration represents a “new global pledge to end all inequalities faced by communities and people affected by HIV towards ending AIDS”. At a time when progress on HIV has stalled and the world is failing to meet global targets, this new global pledge is more important than ever.
On op31, we believe that the reference to such an important political declaration should be retained.
For the above reasons, Japan will vote against amendment L.42.
