令和3年8月13日
The 47th Session of the Human Rights Council (12 July 2021)
General Comments on the Resolution L.1 titled “Civil society space: COVID-19: the road to recovery and the essential role of civil society”
Ambassador OKANIWA Ken

Thank you, Madam President.

On behalf of the core group of the resolution L.1 titled “Civil society space: COVID-19: the road to recovery and the essential role of civil society”, Chile, Japan, Tunisia, Sierra Leone and Ireland, I would like to call on the members of this Council to join consensus on this resolution.

Over the last number of months we have seen that our civil society partners have played a critical role in the response to the pandemic, and it is clear that the civil society organizations will also play an essential role in the recovery phase from the COVID-19.

The aim of the text is to send a simple but very strong and positive message from this Council in unity– that we value the vital contribution of civil society.

In preparing this resolution we listened to all voices in room, revised elements when necessary, and have presented a fair and balanced text.

We hope that now that all members can agree to support this resolution on a consensus basis.
