Item 4: Interactive Dialogue with Special Rapporteur
on the situation of human rights in Myanmar
Statement by Ambassador OKANIWA Ken
The Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva

Japan will continue to support ASEAN’s efforts to break the impasse in Myanmar, and, in cooperation with the countries concerned, to strongly urge the Myanmar Military, to immediately cease violence, release all those detained, and promptly restore the democratic political system.

Japan highly commends Bangladesh for generously accepting the displaced persons. It is crucial to realize an environment conducive to their safe, voluntary and dignified repatriation.

Japan extends medical and food assistance to the displaced population and host communities in Myanmar and its neighboring countries through international organizations, JICA and Japanese NGOs.

Mr. Special Rapporteur, what activities will you undertake in order to improve the human rights and humanitarian situation in Myanmar?
