Item 4: HC oral update on Myanmar
Statement by Ambassador OKANIWA Ken
The Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva
Japan welcomes the Five Point Consensus of ASEAN and highly appreciates ASEAN’s efforts to break the impasse in Myanmar. It is critical to produce tangible outcomes through the Five Point Consensus.
Japan will continue to support ASEAN’s efforts, and to demand the Myanmar Military to immediately stop the violence, release all those detained, and promptly restore the democratic political system.
Japan highly commends Bangladesh for generously accepting the displaced persons. It is vital to create an environment conducive to their safe, voluntary and dignified repatriation.
Japan strongly hopes that the human rights and humanitarian situation in Myanmar will improve at the earliest possible date and in a manner that reflects the will of the people.
