UPR of Honduras – Statement of Japan
TAZAWA Yuuka, Human Rights Advisor
Permanent Mission of Japan
5 November 2020

Thank you, Madam President.

Japan warmly welcomes the delegation of Honduras to this session. Japan commends Honduras for its continued cooperation with OHCHR. We welcome the approval of the National Agenda for Sustainable Development, which integrates human rights perspectives into its targets. We also appreciate Honduras’s commitment to work towards the development of a national action plan on business and human rights.

Japan would like to make three recommendations:

  1. ensure respect for the exercise of peaceful protests in accordance with international standards, and protect freedom of expression and assembly; and

  1. address impunity for attacks against human rights defenders and journalists without delay; and

  1. take further measures to promote and protect women’s rights, including the prevention of domestic and sexual violence.

We wish the delegation of Honduras every success in the review.

I thank you, Madam President.
