The 63rd Session of the Human Rights Council Item 4: Interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Russian Federation, Statement by Ambassador OIKE Atsuyuki

Thank you, Mr. Vice-President.
 
Madam Special Rapporteur, we express our appreciation to you for today’s briefing.
 
We remain concerned about the deteriorating human rights situation and shrinking civic space in the Russian Federation.
 
We once again call on the Russian authorities to fulfill all their obligations under international human rights law.
 
The Special Rapporteur’s report points out that grave violations of international human rights and humanitarian law continue to be committed with impunity in the war by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, in turn exacerbating repression in the Russian Federation itself and deepening the current human rights crisis. This reinforces our belief that promptly ending Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is imperative not only to prevent further suffering among the people of Ukraine but also for the sake of the Russian people.
 
In closing, we would like to once again thank the Special Rapporteur for her important work and express our full support for her mandate.
