UPR of the Republic of Palau
Statement by Mr. KODO Takeshi, First Secretary
The Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva
07 May 2026

   Thank you, Mr. President.

   Japan warmly welcomes the delegation of Palau to this session.

   Japan appreciates the positive steps taken by Palau to promote equal opportunities and full social participation for persons with disabilities through the newly established Office of Persons with Disabilities and Coordinating Committee.

   In a spirit of constructive dialogue, Japan recommends that Palau:

  1. take further steps to facilitate citizens’ access to information and participation in decision-making in line with international standards;
  2. strengthen measures to prevent and address discrimination, xenophobia, and related forms of intolerance in line with international human rights obligations, including through the adoption of legislative and policy measures; and
  3. take further measures to enhance the equity, accessibility, and quality of healthcare services by addressing health disparities, promoting mental health services, and strengthening the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases.
   We wish the delegation of Palau every success in the review.

   I thank you.
