UPR of Australia
Statement by Mr. SHIOTA Takahiro, Minister-Counsellor
The Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva
26 January 2026

 Thank you, Mr. President.

    Japan warmly welcomes the delegation of Australia to this session.

    Japan commends the measures taken by Australia to constructively and actively address both domestic and international human rights issues. We also highly appreciate Australia’s commitment to fostering social inclusion and respect for cultural diversity, underpinned by multiculturalism.

   Japan would like to make three recommendations:

  1. continue to strengthen efforts to improve the working conditions of temporary migrant workers, including working holiday makers;
  2. prepare a National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights through consultations with various stakeholders; and
  3. ratify the Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.
 We wish the delegation of Australia every success in the review.

    I thank you.
