Thank you, Madam Vice-President.
Japan warmly welcomes the delegation of Lebanon to this session.
Japan appreciates Lebanon’s ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2025. We also recognize its efforts in the area of judicial reform under the leadership of President Aoun and Prime Minister Salam, including an improvement in the procedure for the election of the Higher Judicial Council members.
Japan would like to make two recommendations:

- ratify the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance; and
- consult on and adopt without delay the draft laws on judicial independence in line with international standards, and ensure effective implementation of the laws, notwithstanding the political sectarianism in Lebanon.
