2026/1/20
UPR of the Federated States of Micronesia
Statement by Ms. ASANO Yuko, First Secretary
The Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva
19 January 2026

 Thank you, Mr. President.

 Japan warmly welcomes the delegation of the Federated States of Micronesia to this session.

 Japan appreciates the efforts taken by the Federated States of Micronesia to promote gender equality, such as holding the National Women’s Conference biennially and adopting the National Gender Equality Policy.

 In a spirit of constructive dialogue, Japan would like to make three recommendations:

  1. take concrete measures to protect women, including the prevention of domestic violence and gender-based violence;

  1. take measures to promote and protect the rights of persons with disabilities by improving the accessibility of healthcare, education and social services, especially on the outer islands, and by promoting their full social inclusion; and

  1. ratify the core international human rights treaties that the Federated States of Micronesia has not yet ratified.

 We wish the delegation of the Federated States of Micronesia every success in this review.

 I thank you.
