2025/11/12
UPR of the Republic of Croatia
Statement by Mr. SHIOTA Takahiro, Minister-Counsellor
The Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva
10 November 2025

 Thank you, Mr. Vice-President.

 Japan warmly welcomes the delegation of the Republic of Croatia to this session.

 Japan appreciates the positive steps taken by Croatia to further strengthen systems to promote and protect the rights of children, women and girls, persons with disabilities, and minorities through national plans and to enhance protection for victims of femicide through amendments to the Criminal Code.

 In a spirit of constructive dialogue, Japan recommends that Croatia:

  1. continue to guarantee and raise awareness of the right to use minority languages and scripts, in compliance with its domestic legal frameworks;

  1. make further efforts to improve equal access to inclusive and quality education for vulnerable persons, including minorities, persons with disabilities, migrants, refugees, and displaced persons; and

  1. take effective measures to eliminate hate speech and hate crimes, especially against minorities, and to promote the social inclusion of minorities.

 We wish the delegation of Croatia every success in this review.

 Thank you.
