The 60th Session of the Human Rights Council, Item 2: Interactive dialogue on the report of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for the Sudan, Statement by Mr. TAKEUCHI Yasuaki (9 September 2025)

   Thank you, Mr. President.

   Let me begin by saying that Japan extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the victims of the recent landslides.

   Japan appreciates the work of the FFM, which is vital to ensuring impartial accountability.

   
   Japan remains deeply concerned about the human rights situation in Sudan. Two years of conflict and political instability have led to mass displacement and a grave humanitarian crisis. Women and girls, in particular, have been subjected to sexual violence, and tens of thousands of children have been put at risk of death from famine and inadequate healthcare. All persons’ rights to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, and adequate food must be protected.

   Japan reiterates its call on all parties to the conflict to immediately cease hostilities and uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law and international human rights law. We urge all parties to guarantee immediate, unconditional, safe, and unhindered humanitarian access to populations in need, while also protecting civilians.

   Japan remains committed to working with the international community, including through the work of its Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, for the cessation of hostilities, for improved access to humanitarian aid, and to support Sudanese efforts toward an orderly transition to civilian rule.
