Item 10: Interactive dialogue on the High Commissioner’s oral report on Ukraine
Statement by Mr. ISHII Yoshizane, Minister
The Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva
28 March 2025
Thank you, Mr. President.
Mr. High Commissioner,
Thank you for your briefing. We appreciate the continuous efforts you and your Office have been making to address the dire human rights situation in Ukraine.
More than three years have passed since Russia launched its aggression against Ukraine, which, we reiterate, is a clear violation of international law and shakes the very foundation of the international order.
During this period, many innocent civilians have lost their lives and many more have been injured by Russia’s ruthless attacks on critical infrastructure, including hospitals, schools and power plants.
Last month, the General Assembly demanded an early end to this war of aggression and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace in Ukraine, in line with the UN Charter.
It also reiterated the urgent need to end the war this year, and to redouble diplomatic efforts to achieve such peace. In this regard, we appreciate the various ongoing diplomatic efforts, and hope that those efforts lead to a breakthrough in the situation.
We will continue our diplomatic efforts and stand firmly with Ukraine and the international community until a comprehensive, just and lasting peace is achieved in Ukraine.
I thank you, Mr. President.
