44th Session of the UPR Working Group, Review of Bangladesh, Statement by Ambassador HONSEI Kozo (13 November 2023)

 
Thank you, Mr. President.
 
　Japan welcomes Bangladesh’s efforts to realize a society where the rule of law, and fundamental human rights and freedoms are upheld.

　Japan also commends Bangladesh for temporarily sheltering the forcibly displaced persons from Rakhine State, Myanmar, and extending continued humanitarian assistance to them.

　We note, however that several UN bodies expressed their concerns about violence against women and persons with disabilities in the country.
 
　In this regard, Japan recommends the following:
 

1. further strengthen accountability and justice for violence against women by continuing to implement the National Action Plan to Prevent Violence Against Women and Children; and
2. take further steps to ensure protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, especially women and children.

 
We wish the delegation of Bangladesh very successful review.
