44th Session of the UPR Working Group, Review of Germany, Statement by Minister-Counsellor SHIOTA Takahiro (9 November 2023)

 
Thank you, Mr. President.
 
　Japan highly appreciates the positive steps taken by Germany since the previous review cycle.
 
　Japan welcomes Germany’s leadership in addressing human rights issues at various international fora, including the Human Rights Council.

　Japan also commends the acknowledgement by the Government of Germany in its national report that there are certain areas in which it needs to take additional steps and hopes that it will follow through on its commitment to further improve the human rights situation in the country.
 
　In this regard, we recommend that Germany continue to:
 

1. provide human rights training to law enforcement personnel;
2. address disparities in access to quality education; and
3. provide human rights education in schools.
