The 47st Session of the Human Rights Council (12 July 2021)
EOV on Draft Resolution L.24 titled:
The contribution of development to the enjoyment of all human rights
Ambassador OKANIWA Ken
EOV on Draft Resolution L.24 titled:
The contribution of development to the enjoyment of all human rights
Ambassador OKANIWA Ken
Thank you.
Japan takes note of informal consultations with Member States organized by the Chinese Mission.
Japan, however, believes that L.24 lacks balance as a resolution of the Council and focuses too much on development, poverty eradication, and international development cooperation rather than individual human rights.
In addition, the term “shared future” mentioned in the draft resolution is not commonly used in the context of human rights and the concept is unclear.
We Member States should be serious about the effective use of limited resources available. In this regard, we are concerned over required additional resources.
For these reasons, Japan is not able to support this draft resolution and will vote against it. Japan would like to continue constructive dialogue with China.
Thank you.
