2021/8/4
The 47th Session of the Human Rights Council (12 July 2021)
EOP on the draft resolution L.11 titled:
Situation of human rights of Rohingya Muslims
and other minorities in Myanmar
Ambassador OKANIWA Ken

Japan appreciates the OIC’s efforts on this resolution. Japan welcomes support for ASEAN’s initiatives to improve the human rights and humanitarian situation in Myanmar. It is critical to produce tangible outcomes through the Five Point Consensus.

Japan highly commends Bangladesh for generously accepting those displaced from Myanmar. It is vital to create an environment conducive to their safe, voluntary, and dignified repatriation.

Japan strongly urges the Myanmar Military to immediately stop the violence against civilians, release all those detained, including State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, and promptly restore the democratic political system.

The changes to various systems in Myanmar called for by this resolution must essentially be decided through discussion among the people of Myanmar, including minority groups. It is regrettable that the current situation does not allow such discussion to take place.

Japan strongly hopes that the human rights and humanitarian situation in Myanmar will improve at the earliest possible date and in a manner that reflects the will of the people.
