UPR of Singapore — Statement of Japan
Mr. MAEHIRA Tomoyoshi
First Secretary, Permanent Mission of Japan
12 May 2021

Thank you.

Japan warmly welcomes the delegation of Singapore to this session.

Japan highly appreciates the positive steps taken by Singapore to protect and promote the rights of women and children, including its active support to increase women's participation in politics and public service, and amendments of the Penal Code to strengthen protection for children and youths against sexual exploitation.

Japan would like to make two recommendations:

  1. develop a National Action Plan (NAP) in line with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights; and

  1. advance national efforts towards accession to the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and its Protocol.

We wish the delegation of Singapore every success in the review.

I thank you.
