NAKANISHI Eriko
Advisor, Permanent Mission of Japan

Thank you.
Japan warmly welcomes the delegation of the Federated States of Micronesia to this session.
Japan highly appreciates the positive steps taken by the Federated States of Micronesia to protect and promote the rights of people in vulnerable situation, including the ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2016 and adoption of the National Gender Policy in 2018.
On the other hand, Japan is aware of challenges facing the Federated States of Micronesia, including those related to rights of women, children, and vulnerable groups including persons affected by leprosy.
Japan would like to make three recommendations:
- take further measures to protect and promote women’s rights, including prevention of domestic violence against women;
- involve community leaders and persons affected by leprosy in planning and decision-making relating to leprosy issues and
- ratify the Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.
We wish the delegation of the Federated States of Micronesia every success in the review.
I thank you.
