UPR of Mongolia — Statement of Japan
Mr. MAEHIRA Tomoyoshi
First Secretary, Permanent Mission of Japan
4 November 2020

Thank you, Madam President.

 Japan warmly welcomes the delegation of Mongolia.

 Japan appreciates the positive steps taken by Mongolia to further strengthen legal systems to promote and protect rights of children and persons with disabilities, including through the amendments to the relevant laws.

 Japan also welcomes Mongolia’s efforts to develop a National Action Plan (NAP) towards the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

 Japan would like to make three recommendations:

1.  To continue to take steps to guarantee the predictability in law enforcement and to ensure the impartiality and transparency of the judiciary;

2.  To take further measures to promote gender equality in the society, including through accelerating the enforcement of the Law on the Promotion of Gender Equality 2011; and

3.  To continue make efforts to promote and protect rights of children with disabilities, including the right to education especially for those in remote areas.

We wish the delegation of Mongolia every success in the review.

I thank you, Madam. President.
