Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the freedom of expression

Statement by Ambassador Ken OKANIWA
The Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva

Madam Vice President,

We would like to comment on the report of the Special Rapporteur on the freedom of expression (A/HRC/41/35/Add.2).

Freedom of expression is fully guaranteed by the Constitution of Japan. The GoJ has made tireless efforts to consistently uphold fundamental values such as democracy and freedom, including freedom of expression among other basic human rights.

With respect to the report of the SR, Japan refrains from repeating its positon, which remains the same as the comments submitted in response to the SR’s reports and at the Interactive Dialogue with the SR during the previous sessions of the Council.
