UPR of Pakistan - Statement of Japan
Statement by Ambassador Mitsuko SHINO
The Permanent Mission of Japan
13 November 2017

Thank you, Mr. President.

Japan appreciates that Pakistan, as a signatory to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), has been making efforts to implement the Convention domestically in the country by establishing the National Council for Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Japan recommends that Pakistan continue to implement policies that fully consider these rights when formulating and implementing all social activities and development plans.

Japan also commends Pakistan on its efforts to promote women’s social participation. Japan expects that Pakistan will continue its efforts to both ensure equal participation of men and women in the workplace and to create more jobs for women. Furthermore, Japan recommends that Pakistan continue to increase its efforts to prevent discrimination and violence against women.

Finally, Japan also recommends that Pakistan ratify the International Convention on the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearances (CPED).

I thank you, Mr. President.
