  1. On 22 June 2026, Ambassador NAGAI Katsuro of the Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva was appointed as one of the facilitators for WTO reform, following his selection as facilitator for the ‘Decision-Making’ track. In this capacity, Ambassador NAGAI will lead discussions on reform in this area.
  2. The appointment of the track facilitators follows the discussions held at the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC14) in March 2026. In light of those discussions, substantive discussions on WTO reform were to continue under the WTO General Council, focusing on four areas: ‘Foundational Issues’, ‘Decision-Making’, ‘Development’, and ‘Level Playing Field (LPF)’. WTO Ambassadors based in Geneva were also to be appointed as facilitators for each track. The facilitators are expected to assist General Council Chair in their personal capacities and to help advance the reform discussions.
(Reference) In addition to Ambassador NAGAI, the following Ambassadors were appointed as facilitators on 22 June 2026: the Ambassador of Malaysia for the ‘Foundational Issues’ track; the Ambassador of Botswana for the ‘Development’ track; and the Ambassador of Peru for the ‘Level Playing Field (LPF)’ track. The Ambassador of Kazakhstan will address any new issues arising.
