Briefing Session on Ambassador OIKE’s Official Mission to Ethiopia in His Capacity as Chair of the UNHCR Executive Committee

On 7 May, Ambassador OIKE Atsuyuki, Permanent Representative of Japan to the
International Organizations in Geneva, held a debriefing session on his visit to Ethiopia last month in his capacity as Chairperson of the UNHCR Executive Committee.
The debriefing session was attended by Ambassador Haileselassie GEBRU, Deputy Permanent Representative of Ethiopia, Mr. Raouf MAZOU, Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees (Operations), and Ms. Dominique HYDE, Director of External Relations at UNHCR.
From the perspective of the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) Nexus, Ambassador Oike raised issues of how to address protracted cases of displacement based on his experiences in Ethiopia. He also engaged in active discussions with representatives of major donor countries, including G7 members; refugee host countries, such as Kenya and Uganda; and international stakeholders, including UNDP and FAO.
