Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY 2024 (8 August 2024)

On August 1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs published the lists of recipients of the Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY 2024, and it was announced that Ms. KAMIOKA Keiko, former Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Office in Japan, would receive an award. To mark this achievement, Ms. Kamioka was presented with a certificate of commendation by Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs, at the award ceremony held on August 8.
The Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas. The Commendations also aim to promote the understanding and support of the Japanese public for the activities of the recipients.
Overview of Ms. Kamioka’s achievements
In 2011, Ms. Kamioka was appointed Deputy Director of the ILO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, and contributed to the preparation and success of the ILO Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting held in Kyoto that year. From 2012 to 2015, Ms. Kamioka served as the Director of the ILO Office in Japan, greatly contributing to raising Japan’s profile in the field of labor by promoting social justice and decent work in Japan through dialogue with tripartite constituents, NGOs, and other members of civil society, engaging in public relations activities, and advancing initiatives in Asia and Africa through support for technical cooperation projects. Ms. Kamioka also served as President of the Japanese Staff Association of International Organizations in Geneva (JSAG) from 2020 to 2022.
