National Dress Day of the Human Rights Council (8 March 2024)
2024/3/15
On 8 March, National Dress Day was held at the United Nations Office at Geneva as part of the 55th Session of the Human Rights Council (26 February to 5 April).
For this customary event held annually during the March session of the Human Rights Council, delegates are invited to showcase their cultural heritage by wearing national and traditional costumes while attending meetings during the day and then sharing some of their traditional food and drink in the evening.
The Japanese delegation entered into the spirit of the day by attending the Council plenary and informal consultations on resolutions in kimono. We also provided fellow delegates with a taste of Japanese culture by setting up a Japan booth at the venue and treating visitors to sushi and Japanese snacks. Overall, the event provided a wonderful opportunity for delegates to see a side of their colleagues that they don’t usually get to see in official meetings, while offering colleagues a glimpse of one another’s cultures.
