Japan enhances its contribution to global efforts to address humanitarian crises in the world: signing of IOM project for vulnerable people in Venezuela (3 October 2023)

2023/10/6
On 3 October 2023 in Geneva, the Government of Japan, represented by Ambassador YAMAZAKI Kazuyuki, Permanent Representative of Japan to the International Organizations in Geneva, signed an agreement with Ms. Amy POPE, Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), to provide approximately 2.5 million USD for IOM’s activities in Venezuela. This is in addition to approximately 57 million USD pledged by Japan for IOM’s activities in 2023.
This cooperation will provide the most vulnerable people in Venezuela, including women and girls, with humanitarian assistance such as protection, shelters, and support for local communities. Through these efforts, Japan expects to contribute to the socio-economic inclusion of the victims and stabilization of the target areas.
