National Dress Day at the UN Human Rights Council (2 March 2018)
On 2 March, National Dress Day was held at the United Nations Office at Geneva as part of the 37th Session of the Human Rights Council (26 February to 23 March).
For this customary event held annually during the March session of the Human Rights Council, delegates are invited to showcase their cultural heritage by wearing national costumes while attending meetings during the day and then sharing their traditional food and drink in the evening.
The Japanese delegation availed of this opportunity to let other delegates know about Japan by setting up a Japan booth at the venue and treating visitors to sushi, sake and Japanese snacks while also providing materials on Japan. Overall, the event provided a great chance for delegates to see a side of their colleagues that they don’t usually see in official meetings while sharing a taste of one another’s cultures.
