Visit to Japan by Ms. Sylvie Forbin, Deputy-Director-General of WIPO(October 22-28, 2017)

 Ms. Sylvie Forbin, Deputy-Director-General (responsible for the Copyright and Creative Industries Sector) of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), visited Japan from 22 to 28 October.

 During her visit to Japan, Ms. Forbin attended the Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting for Heads of Copyright Offices, in which representatives from 28 countries (including Japan) in the Asia-Pacific region participated. During the meeting, Ms. Forbin and other participants actively discussed copyright-related challenges in the Asia-Pacific region and a plan of action that they should adopt to address those challenges.


 While in Japan, Ms. Forbin met with high-level officials from the Government of Japan, including Mr. Ryohei Miyata, Commissioner for Cultural Affairs, as well as Mr. Takayuki Sumida, Secretary-General, Secretariat of Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters and Mr. Tatsuya Terazawa, Director-General of the Commerce and Information Policy Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. In addition, she exchanged opinions with representatives and experts of copyright organizations and companies in the content industries. Ms. Forbin also visited the Tokyo National Museum and an educational organization which sets out to develop the abilities of future creators in the creative industries.
