The Election of Mr.Tadateru Konoe, President of the Japanese Red Cross Society,as President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies(IFRC) November 2009 At the Federation’s 17th session of the General Assembly of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) held in Kenya on 19 November 2009, Mr. Tadateru Konoe, President of the Japanese Red Cross Society, was elected as President of the IFRC for a four-year-term. It is the first time that an Asian person has been elected as President of the IFRC. The President of the IFRC convenes and presides over the sessions of the General Assembly and the Governing Board and represents the International Federation in its relations with the other components of the Movement and with other international organizations and institutions, among other responsibilities.
