第37回人権理事会 議題3 緊急討論(東グータ情勢)における志野大使のステートメント(平成30年3月2日)

平成30年3月5日
37th Session of the Human Rights Council (2 March 2018)
Urgent Debate on Situation in Eastern Ghouta
Statement by Ambassador Mitsuko Shino
Permanent Mission of Japan in Geneva

Thank you, Mr. President.

Japan is deeply concerned about the intensification of military tension in the Syrian Arab Republic, especially the situation in the Eastern Ghouta area, where airstrikes and shelling have intensified and caused many casualties.

Japan supported convening this urgent debate from the viewpoint that the International community should unite and work together in order to improve the human rights situation in Syria.

Japan welcomes the adoption of the UN Security Council’s resolution 2401 on the 24th February, which calls for a ceasefire for at least 30 days. Japan urges all parties to implement the resolution fully and swiftly.

Japan believes that the crisis in Syria cannot be resolved by any military means and we must keep pursing a political solution. Japan calls on all parties to stop any military actions in order to enable humanitarian assistance and to make their utmost effort to advance the political process led by the United Nations.

Japan intends to coordinate with the international community to achieve the cessation of all violence.

I thank you, Mr. President.
